Our Farm · Seedling to harvest

Rooted in South African soil.

From a dedicated seedling facility in Stellenbosch to our own farms and trusted contract growers across the Karoo and KwaZulu-Natal — we cultivate Sceletium tortuosum across the regions where it thrives best.

One plant, three landscapes, one
standard.

Most Kanna brands buy bulk material from a single source — or worse, an anonymous one. We took the harder path: we own our seedling facility, run our own farms, and partner with carefully selected contract farms in regions chosen for their soil, climate, and growing tradition.

Every plant — wherever it grows — starts at the same nursery, follows the same protocols, and is harvested to the same standard.

Stellenbosch · Seedling Facility

Every plant begins here.

Our seedling facility in Stellenbosch is the genetic heart of Veldt Kanna. Selected mother plants are propagated under controlled conditions, then raised in greenhouse beds until they're strong enough for the field.

By starting every farm — our own and our contract partners — from the same nursery stock, we lock in consistent genetics, alkaloid profile, and quality from day one.

Single genetics

Controlled propagation

Disease-free, true-to-type seedlings

Climate hardened

Adapted before they ever leave the greenhouse

Traceable lineage

Every plant tracked back to its mother

Real plants. Real hands. Real soil.

Stellenbosch nursery

Photos from our Stellenbosch nursery and Karoo grow-out beds. No styling, no stock — just the work.

Hardened seedlings staged before plant-out — every pot from the same mother stock.

Sorted by vigour and leaf colour before they leave the nursery.

Three regions. One Kanna.

Growing across multiple climates means more resilient supply, broader alkaloid expression, and a year-round harvest.

01 · Karoo

Semi-arid, mineral-rich soil

The Karoo's hot days, cool nights, and low rainfall stress the plant in exactly the right way — concentrating mesembrine and mesembrenone in the leaf.

02 · KwaZulu-Natal

Subtropical resilience

Warmer, wetter KZN sites give us a second growing window and a complementary alkaloid profile — diversifying both supply and character.

03 · Western Cape

Native heartland

Our home farms in Sceletium's native habitat anchor the program. The same soil the Khoikhoi harvested for centuries.

"Our growers are partners — not suppliers."

Own farms + contract farms

A community of growers, one standard.

Alongside our company-owned farms, we work with a hand-picked network of contract farms across the Karoo and KwaZulu-Natal. Every partner farms our seedlings, follows our cultivation protocol, and is audited on the same quality standard.

This model gives us scale without compromise — and gives rural growers in South Africa a reliable, fairly-priced market for a uniquely South African crop.

GMP-aligned

Pharmaceutical-grade processes

Documented protocol

Same cultivation, same harvest window

On-site agronomists

We visit. Often.

Fair, long-term contracts

Multi-season agreements with our partners

From nursery to lab, season by

A single seedling from Stellenbosch can take two years to reach our extraction lab. We don't shortcut any of it.
